The NFL season has been a puzzle early on and it will only get crazier week by week, but one thing for sure Bears defensive end Khalil Mack will be ready. Mack, who was traded from Oakland, has gotten off to the start the Bears expected when they signed him to 6-yr/$141 million dollar deal earlier in the month. Chicago is off to a 3-1 start and are looking frighteningly similar to the monsters of the midway from the mid-80's, which should scare opposing offenses.
Mack came out the gate against Green Bay and hasn't slowed down since. He has 17 tackles, 4 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and an interception. That's not even counting the heat he has put on the first 4 quarterbacks he's faced, so I asked myself sports fans that are talking MVP, why not Mack?
Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff and a couple of others are also off to fast starts, which start up MVP talks that last throughout the season. Offensive players always get the most recognition, but the defensive players set the tone? Why not finally switch it up and start a new trend? It doesn't happen too often and defenders should get more support as the awards are given out.
There have only been 2 defensive MVP's in NFL history, Alan Page in 1971 (Vikings) and Lawrence Taylor in 1986 (Giants). That's right it's been 32 years since a defensive player took home the award. Taylor led the NFL with 20.5 sacks in 1986 on his way to winning the 1st of his two Super Bowl titles.
It's safe to say that Mack is one of the most talented pass rushers in the NFL and he's putting up better numbers than entire franchises, including strip sacks/fumbles, Sacks and QB pressures.
Mack is an intimidating force whenever he lines up on the field, he's unstoppable and has the best motor in the league. If the NFL players vote on instant impact alone, they would put him near the top of the list. When the votes tally at the end of the season expect Mack to be on the voters final ballot.
