Patrick Mahomes off to a record setting start

Article by Antwon "Smitty" Smith

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is as hot as a pair of brakes on a Formula 1 race car, as he and the Chiefs have jumped out the Gate to a 2-0 start. Mahomes threw 6 touchdown passes Sunday in a 42-37 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It gives him 10 touchdown passes in his first two games, which is a new NFL record. There are 3 players tied with 9, including the record holder Peyton Manning who threw 55 touchdown passes in 2013.

Mahomes blazing start could mean only one thing, Andy Reid's gamble is paying off tremendously. The Chiefs traded veteran Alex Smith away this past off-season and put their future in Mahomes sooner rather than later, but who's complaining.....Right?

The Chiefs offense seems like it may be a top 10 offense all season with the numbers they have put up the first two games. Tyreek Hill's speed and play making ability combined with Mahomes' arm strength could make them one of the more dangerous combos in the NFL. They also have weapons in Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce and Sammy Watkins, which makes this team a legitimate threat to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl in February.

The second year QB seems like he put in the work this off-season to learn Andy Reid's version of the West Coast offense and tweak it to his liking, so he could make the proper adjustments. Mahomes seems comfortable and more confident than last season, but its only two games in and we have a ways to go.

Mahomes may challenge DeShaun Watson's record 19 touchdown passes in 7 games last season. His next stop San Francisco who's secondary has struggled the first two games.

The Falcons drafting a running back could be a smart move

The Atlanta Falcons are bringing in running back prospects to interview and work out for the upcoming NFL draft starting with Georgia running back Nick Chubb. It's something I definitely agree  with as a fan and an analyst.

What will the Atlanta Falcons do at #26?

The Atlanta Falcons are two years post-Super Bowl appearance and they still have a nice window to return there. They have some holes to fill on both sides of the ball, whether it's to find a starter or to add depth at key positions. I think they could use the #26 pick in the first round of the draft to add depth at defensive tackle, right guard, tight end or free safety. Grady Jarrett needs a big body on the other side of him, with Dontari Poe hitting free agency Atlanta has to get a space eater/gap filler that helps in the run game. Austin Hooper has been a good addition to the Falcons offense, but still needs to grow and Atlanta needs reliable hands in the red zone. Wes Schweitzer has not been consistent and has seen some bad snaps that could land him as a role player. This could be the position the Falcons could use the 26th pick but that still remains to be seen. The Falcons need depth at the safety with the team releasing Ishmael and R...

Smitty's Top 10 NBA players heading into the 2018-2019 season

The NBA has some of the best athletes in sports but when it comes to playing basketball, some players stand out and know how to take their game to another level. Here are my top 10 players that can do just that, play at another level.  1. LeBron James SF Los Angeles Lakers  2017-2018 Stats: 27.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 9.1 apg   The king lived up to his name this season as he carried the Cavs to a 4th straight finals appearance. He played in all 82 games (first time in his career) and endured a trade, so he's still #1. 2. Kevin Durant SF Golden State Warriors 2017-2018 Stats:  26.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.4 apg  The now 2-time NBA champion and Finals MVP also put on a show this past season as he excelled on the defensive side of the ball, something he isn't known for throughout his career.  3. Anthony Davis C New Orleans Pelicans 2017-2018 Stats: 28.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 2.3 apg  This young stud is only getting better with ...
