The Melo complex

Article by Antwon "Smitty" Smith

The Oklahoma City Thunder have more than likely made a choice on the future of Carmelo Anthony with the team and nothing was more clear after signing Paul George to a 4yr/$137 million dollar max contract, then signing key reserve Jeremi Grant to a 3yr/$27 million dollar deal which will put them well in luxury tax territory. It almost is a definite sign after the way the season ended losing to Utah in Six games in the playoffs.

It ultimately led to Melo lashing out at his teammates and management saying,

"I think the player that they wanted me to be and needed me to be was for the sake of this season,"

"Everything was just thrown together and it wasn't anything that was planned out. Wasn't no strategy to me being here, me being a part of the actual system and what type of player and things like that."

Well after all that Melo still opted in for $27.9 million but as I stated earlier, the team has made key moves to assure that they have a legit reason to let him walk. They could buy him out or break down is contract in installments thanks to the CBA luxury-bill (would save $91 million) which would be the best option at this point. I think if he returns to Thunder it becomes a problem in the locker room as well as the front office.

You are probably saying what's next for Melo? Well if he's bought out then his most logical move would be to latch on to LeBron and ride it out with the Lakers. He would probably sign for the veterans minimum (Around $3 million) and continue to receive his buyout money from OKC, Dwayne Wade did this last season after being bought out by the Bulls last season.

LeBron James and the Lakers would welcome him with open arms even though he posted career lows in points, rebounds, FG% and minutes. Did I mention he did not score 30 points in a single game last season? His season high came against the Hawks which was 29. I think he could fit in the Lakers set up because of his ability to score on the wing and play one on one. Yes,  he may not be the scorer he once was but I think in the right line up he could be effective.

The Lakers are not done wheeling and dealing yet, so Melo may be in the future plans after they lose some contracts. Luol Deng's contract must come off the books and they have a big decision to make on Julius Randle's future with the team. Something to think about is what position would Melo play? Small Forward or Power Forward?

These are key questions that OKC and LA have if they decide to put Melo on their radar. Is this a good fit to me, yes! We will keep an eye on where this story goes and keep you up to date.

Smitty's Top 10 NBA players heading into the 2018-2019 season

The NBA has some of the best athletes in sports but when it comes to playing basketball, some players stand out and know how to take their game to another level. Here are my top 10 players that can do just that, play at another level.  1. LeBron James SF Los Angeles Lakers  2017-2018 Stats: 27.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 9.1 apg   The king lived up to his name this season as he carried the Cavs to a 4th straight finals appearance. He played in all 82 games (first time in his career) and endured a trade, so he's still #1. 2. Kevin Durant SF Golden State Warriors 2017-2018 Stats:  26.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.4 apg  The now 2-time NBA champion and Finals MVP also put on a show this past season as he excelled on the defensive side of the ball, something he isn't known for throughout his career.  3. Anthony Davis C New Orleans Pelicans 2017-2018 Stats: 28.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 2.3 apg  This young stud is only getting better with ...
