I just had to use my boy Raphael "Controversy" favorite line when I looked into Sammy Sosa's latest interview with ESPN reporter Jeremy Schaap and it was only right to tell Sammy Sosa to......STOP IT! That's Raph's favorite line when non-sense starts to spew out of someone's mouth when discussing sports and boy have I heard that line many times. There are two instances where I feel this phrase puts Sosa's lies to bed.
First off, Sammy Sosa has been questioned by sports fans and the media about his appearance nowadays, as he has a lighter skin tone than he did during his playing days. When asked about his "new look" he replied,
“Look at what I am today,” Sosa said. “This is my life, and I don’t take garbage from nobody. I do whatever I want.”
“It’s a bleaching cream that I apply before going to bed and whitens my skin tone,” Sosa told Univision in 2009. “It’s a cream that I have, that I use to soften [my skin], but has bleached me some. I’m not a racist, I live my life happily.”
He is absolutely correct about one and that's his life is his business, but why keep putting the media in your business? This is one question that will never go away.
My second problem with this Sosa ordeal is him still not coming clean about PED use back in the late 90's until the early 2000's. It shows in his stats and his frame as his home run total increased dramatically during the 1998 season (66), up from the 1997 season (36). Sosa would hit 60+ home runs 3 out of the next 4 seasons and only his 66 would be topped by Mark McGuire (70 in '98) and Barry Bonds (72 in 2001). When asked about PED use, here's what Sosa said in the interview with ESPN reporter Jeremy Schaap:
It seems that Sammy Sosa will never come clean about his PED use, which is why hall of fame voters will never give him the amount of votes needed to get into Cooperstown.
