5 Burning questions as the NBA offseason looms near

The NBA summer is right around the corner and there's always a surprise that NBA fans don't see coming.  Just like LeBron hit us with "The Decision"  nearly a decade ago, it tells us nothing is final until the ink dries on the contract, just ask DeAndre Jordan. Kevin Durant chose to take his talents to the Bay and join the Warriors to cement his legacy as one of the best small forwards to ever play. It's 2018 and there will be sure surprises but bigger questions, I'll throw out a few and tell me what you think:

1. Where will LeBron James take his talents? Will he stay in "The Land"?

This is a question fans in all facets of the game want to know, so the drama will be thick enough to cut with a knife. After "Coming home" James put the Cavs on his back and willed them to the city's first championship in 50 years. Now it's time for him to conquer his dreams of winning titles and finding a better squad to suite his talents.  He's 33 and father time is undefeated, sooo the time is now. I personally think he should stay but if he leaves I think Miami, Philly and San Antonio (If coach Popovich returns)  should be on his list. Houston is a fans favorite but the Warriors are in the West and Iso ball doesn't fit James' game.

2. Can Melo find his way out of OKC?

Melo just celebrated his 34th birthday and one of the best presents could receive is a one way ticket out of town. He made crucial statements after the Thunder were eliminated and now they have to find a way to part ways. Anthony is due nearly $28 million and Sam Presti surely shouldn't pay him that given he's coming of the worst season of his career. Presti should just make an attempt at a buyout eat $20 million and find another player with the remaining left over. If they somehow keep Anthony he's sure to become a cancer and ruin what chemistry you have left.

3. Is Kawhi in or out in San Antonio?

Man oh man this will be an intriguing situation to say the least. Both Kawhi and the Spurs organization handled his injury situation poorly and the two may be far from mending the situation, but if they can find common ground it could help both parties. Leonard is the type of player that coud thrive in a bigger market and if he is paired with another superstar...Oh my lord! Offseason can't get here fast enough.

4. Which Superstar(s) could Magic Johnson lure to the purple and gold?

This is one of the most tense situations to watch out for because the Lakers may actually lose talent in order to gain it. Julius Randle is a free agent and Luol Deng's contract is coming off the books, so they could use that money to sign at least two big names.  He will surely be aiming for LeBron and could pair either Paul George or Boogie Cousins with him. If the Lakers want to take the patient route they have names like Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant and others to look forward to in 2019. Magic has some work to do but I trust with his pull as a business man, they are in good hands as an organization.

5. How many Superstars will join forces this offseason?

This is ALWAYS a tricky one because since winning rings is a goal of most NBA players, some of them now find ways to team up and chase the trophy. You have players such as Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins, Chris Paul and LeBron James that will enter free agency and look to find the best fit possible. The only thing that holds them back is picking the team that can accommodate their salaries. In some cases they take a loss and accept lower deals to bring another high caliber player along for the ride, Like LeBron taking less to form the Big 3 in Miami in 2010. I could see Cousins and LeBron in Miami or Durant signing another mega deal elsewhere if the Warriors win another title, so the matches are endless it could be a summer of surprises that you will NEVER forget.

Smitty's Top 10 NBA players heading into the 2018-2019 season

The NBA has some of the best athletes in sports but when it comes to playing basketball, some players stand out and know how to take their game to another level. Here are my top 10 players that can do just that, play at another level.  1. LeBron James SF Los Angeles Lakers  2017-2018 Stats: 27.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 9.1 apg   The king lived up to his name this season as he carried the Cavs to a 4th straight finals appearance. He played in all 82 games (first time in his career) and endured a trade, so he's still #1. 2. Kevin Durant SF Golden State Warriors 2017-2018 Stats:  26.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.4 apg  The now 2-time NBA champion and Finals MVP also put on a show this past season as he excelled on the defensive side of the ball, something he isn't known for throughout his career.  3. Anthony Davis C New Orleans Pelicans 2017-2018 Stats: 28.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 2.3 apg  This young stud is only getting better with ...
