What's next for Julio Jones?

The Atlanta Falcons have gotten their signal caller Matt Ryan possibly locked down for the rest of his career, now it's time for Atlanta to focus on other key players. Julio Jones is one of the biggest names next in line for a new deal and it begs to wonder if Ryan's new deal will put a dent in future negotiations.

Jones is probably hands down the most dangerous receiver in the NFL, has two years left on a 5-year $71 million dollar deal he signed back in 2015. He is currently the 8th ($14.25 million) on the receiver's list in salary behind names like Sammy Watkins, Jarvis Landry, DaVante Adams just to name a few.

He holds the teams single season receptions (136 receptions) and receiving yards (1,871 Receiving yards) both set in 2015. Julio is closing in Roddy White's team record for career receiving yards (Needs 1,809 yards). Jones is a key component in the Falcons offense and if they struggle to re-sign him, it could mean a complete rebuild on offense.

Julio caused a frantic stir for the Atlanta media market after he erased his social media pictures in late April. He said in a statement that he did it for personal reasons. It's going to be a long road ahead for the 5-time Pro Bowler, but if they get through this season with no conflict, there might be light at the end of the tunnel.

Jones will be turning 31 just after the 2019 season ends and it makes you wonder if Atlanta will pay him like an Elite receiver at that age. Yes, he would have put up the numbers and hold some records, but what about the injuries he's accumulated over his career? It will have to play a factor in his next deal with the team.

Atlanta also has Pro Bowl linebacker Deion Jones due for a new deal after 2019, he will be coming off of his rookie deal and has earned a nice payday.

One thing for sure, Atlanta stays prepared when it's time to make difficult decisions, they took Calvin Ridley with their 1st round pick in the NFL Draft, so are they buckling down and preparing for the worst? The Falcons window is slowly closing and these next two seasons will be critical for Julio and Atlanta.

The Falcons drafting a running back could be a smart move

The Atlanta Falcons are bringing in running back prospects to interview and work out for the upcoming NFL draft starting with Georgia running back Nick Chubb. It's something I definitely agree  with as a fan and an analyst.

What will the Atlanta Falcons do at #26?

The Atlanta Falcons are two years post-Super Bowl appearance and they still have a nice window to return there. They have some holes to fill on both sides of the ball, whether it's to find a starter or to add depth at key positions. I think they could use the #26 pick in the first round of the draft to add depth at defensive tackle, right guard, tight end or free safety. Grady Jarrett needs a big body on the other side of him, with Dontari Poe hitting free agency Atlanta has to get a space eater/gap filler that helps in the run game. Austin Hooper has been a good addition to the Falcons offense, but still needs to grow and Atlanta needs reliable hands in the red zone. Wes Schweitzer has not been consistent and has seen some bad snaps that could land him as a role player. This could be the position the Falcons could use the 26th pick but that still remains to be seen. The Falcons need depth at the safety with the team releasing Ishmael and R...

Smitty's Top 10 NBA players heading into the 2018-2019 season

The NBA has some of the best athletes in sports but when it comes to playing basketball, some players stand out and know how to take their game to another level. Here are my top 10 players that can do just that, play at another level.  1. LeBron James SF Los Angeles Lakers  2017-2018 Stats: 27.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 9.1 apg   The king lived up to his name this season as he carried the Cavs to a 4th straight finals appearance. He played in all 82 games (first time in his career) and endured a trade, so he's still #1. 2. Kevin Durant SF Golden State Warriors 2017-2018 Stats:  26.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.4 apg  The now 2-time NBA champion and Finals MVP also put on a show this past season as he excelled on the defensive side of the ball, something he isn't known for throughout his career.  3. Anthony Davis C New Orleans Pelicans 2017-2018 Stats: 28.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 2.3 apg  This young stud is only getting better with ...
