Smitty's Top 10 NFL Wide Receivers

The NFL is known as a passing league and there is a log jam in a game dominated by receivers. The top 2 receivers are in a class by themselves but numbers 3-10 are right on their tail.  Let's look at my top 10 receivers in the NFL today.

1. Julio Jones Atlanta Falcons

Thus dude is easily one of the most freakish athletes to ever play the position and is a nightmare for defenders. He's had at least 1,400+ yards his last 4 seasons, including a league high 1,871 in 2015.

2. Antonio Brown Pittsburgh Steelers

Brown is right there with Jones but he has this special skill set that few receivers posses and that's his clutch play. Brown was in the MVP conversation for most of the season but fell short at the end.

3. Odell Beckham Jr. New York Giants

Beckham took the league by storm during his rookie season in 2014 and hasn't disappointed fans around the globe.  Before his season ending knee injury Beckham was on pace to shatter record books. Beckham may have Jerry Rice status before his career is done.

4. DeAndre Hopkins Houston Texans

Do you remember names like Ryan Fitzpatrick,  Brandon Weeden or Ryan Mallett? Those are just a few of the QB's that have thrown to Hopkins but he's maintained his productivity through his first 5 season. If he gets Watson back under center look for him, we coud be rewriting the record books.

5. A.J. Green Cincinnati Bengals

Green is still among the elite receivers in the NFL even though he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Green is tough to cover with his nice sized catch radius and defensive backs have fits trying to cover him on deep routes. Green has 4 career catches over 80+ yards, if that doesn't tell you how hard it is to cover then I don't know what will convince you.

6. Keenan Allen Los Angeles Chargers

Keenan Allen is probably going to be one  of the best in the league for a long time if he can stay healthy.  He tore his ACL 2 seasons ago but roared back in 2017 with 102 receptions and 1,393 for 6 touchdowns. That's not bad for a dude that went in the 3rd round.

7. Michael Thomas New Orleans Saints

Thomas is of the brightest young stars in the league right now and he is on pace to shatter some records. He has put up over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons and with Drew Brees at QB he could easily be in the top 5 next year.

8. Mike Evans Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It was hard to put him this low on the list but he has issues with his hands (receiving and blocking). If Evans learns how to use his body while in the air he could be a top 5 receiver easily. He is still one of the biggest Red Zone threats in football scoring 32 touchdowns in his first 4 seasons.

9. Adam Thielen Minnesota Vikings

This kid is the perfect example of perseverance as he stayed close to home by playing for the Vikings (Attended Minnesota State). He was the go-to-guy as he hauled in 91 receptions and became Keenum's favorite target.  Thielen will have a new QB but it shouldn't hurt his bottom line too much.

10. Brandin Cooks Los Angeles Rams

Cooks will be on his third team in three years but his game breaking ability will fit right into an offense that's loaded. He can line up inside or out and that could spell trouble for opposing defenses.

Those are my top 10 NFL receivers, so tell me who you  would add/ cut from my list. Comment in the box below this article., Thanks!

Smitty's Top 10 NBA players heading into the 2018-2019 season

The NBA has some of the best athletes in sports but when it comes to playing basketball, some players stand out and know how to take their game to another level. Here are my top 10 players that can do just that, play at another level.  1. LeBron James SF Los Angeles Lakers  2017-2018 Stats: 27.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 9.1 apg   The king lived up to his name this season as he carried the Cavs to a 4th straight finals appearance. He played in all 82 games (first time in his career) and endured a trade, so he's still #1. 2. Kevin Durant SF Golden State Warriors 2017-2018 Stats:  26.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.4 apg  The now 2-time NBA champion and Finals MVP also put on a show this past season as he excelled on the defensive side of the ball, something he isn't known for throughout his career.  3. Anthony Davis C New Orleans Pelicans 2017-2018 Stats: 28.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 2.3 apg  This young stud is only getting better with time, he lost his running

The Falcons drafting a running back could be a smart move

The Atlanta Falcons are bringing in running back prospects to interview and work out for the upcoming NFL draft starting with Georgia running back Nick Chubb. It's something I definitely agree  with as a fan and an analyst.
