Vic Beasley just got his 5th year option picked up by the Falcons but 2018 is still a make or break year for the 4th year pass rusher. He has been on a roller coaster ride since arriving back in 2015.
Atlanta took a chance three years ago when they took the edge rusher from Clemson with names like Todd Gurley, Shane Ray, Bud Dupree and Marcus Peters still on the board. Analysts questioned Beasley's size and mechanics leading up to the draft but the Falcons took him with the 8th overall pick.
Beasley's first year in Atlanta he registered only 4 sacks but he was mainly trying to get his feet under him adjusting to the game at the next level. He played defensive end his first year but Quinn was unsure whether he could play end, so he moved him to strong side linebacker.
He would flourish at the linebacker position as he did during his playing days as a Clemson Tiger. Beasley would earn his first trip to the Pro Bowl after tallying up 15.5 sacks to lead the league. He would also earn First-Team All-Pro honors. In his third season he would take a little slide backwards as he dropped back down to five sacks, which caused coach Quinn to do a 360 and put him back on the edge as an end rusher.
it's time for Beasley to show the Falcons he's a key part of their future, because 2nd year edge rusher Takk McKinley is hungry for snaps after a solid rookie campaign (6 sacks). McKinley will probably help Beasley get his numbers back up by playing opposite of him in base packages.
Vic Beasley has shown he can make things happen, whether it's sacking the QB, causing fumbles or dropping back in coverage, he will be one of many key players to watch in 2018.
