Richard Sherman didn't take long to find a new home as he lands with NFC rival San Francisco. It's not really a surprise because Sherman was born and raised in the bay area and went to school at Stanford university. Both parties reach an agreement on a 3-year deal worth $39 million dollars and it includes a signing bonus of $5 million dollars.
Sherman spent the first seven seasons in Seattle as the leader of the legion of boom, one of the toughest secondaries ever assembled. It came to an end Friday as Sherman was due to make $11 million when the new league year started next Wednesday.
He has a tough couple of months ahead as he deals with an Achilles injury he suffered against the Cardinals late in the season . Sherman should be ready by the time training camp starts in June.
Sherman said he wanted to play for a contender and the Niners are one of the up and coming teams in the NFC. The newly signed Jimmy Garoppolo is spear heading the new regime and it looks promising.
San Francisco may be far from done as they have nearly $70 million in cap space and open roster spots that need filling. Look for them to put pieces around Sherman and that front four that includes Buckner and Armstead.
"...Would I go to a young secondary that is like we were when we were younger and help them grow and help them advance? Sure, if the number looks right and the situation is comfortable for me and my family."
